DRAMA
Workshop Series
DRAMA (2022–2024) was a collaborative project developed with John Philip Sage, where we explored non-virtuoso performance practice, with emphasis on questions related to language, identity, gender, and sexuality.
Drawing from our background in graphic design, this practice explore dhow text can be activated, and its reception affected, through different mediums – performance currently allowed us to ask after the possibilities of activating language and writing through voice, sound, movement and space.
DRAMA challenged the format of the reading group by using visual and written communication both as points of departure and of rapture. The workshops explored non-linear, personal and performative approaches to the production and analysis of text. Free and itinerant, the workshops invited participants to take part in performative reading, experimental affective and embodied writing practice and, finally, with negotiations of performative strategies for the interpetation of texts.
DRAMA proposed the notion of ‘oversharing’ as a possibility for empathy, connection and affirmation. Over the last two years, this notion has been integrated with themes such as domesticity and carnality; conviviality and sobremesa; practices of listening; voice and sound; cybernetics and lesbian erotica.
